Our mission

The Delta Dental Institute is dedicated to advancing oral health for all Americans in partnership with Delta Dental companies and dedicated partners across the country. With expertise rooted in Delta Dental's rich history of oral health leadership, we engage in and support oral health research, community outreach, and advocacy, striving to ensure everyone understands the importance of oral health to overall health and has access to the care that they need.

Who we are

Vivian Vasallo

Executive Director

 

Vivian Vasallo serves as Executive Director of the Delta Dental Institute, elevating oral health in the nation's broader health care conversation through research, community engagement and advocacy. With over 25 years of experience, Vasallo's career has been dedicated to catalyzing social change that advances health and financial well-being for all communities. Vasallo's leadership experience across Fortune 500, philanthropic and non-profit sectors has enabled her to build strong partnerships and creative solutions with expertise in health, financial services and aging.

 

Previously Vasallo led innovation and partnerships in health and housing at Fannie Mae.  Vivian has also held leadership positions at AARP Foundation, First American Financial Corporation and the Milken Institute. She serves on the board of Heluna Health, and previously served on the boards of HelpAge USA and National Housing Conference.

 

Vasallo holds a BA from American University and an MA from the University of Miami. She also has earned a certificate in Executive Leadership from Georgetown's McDonough School of Business and a certificate in Aging and Health from Georgetown University.

Joseph Dill, DDS, MBA

Head of Dental Science

 

As Head of Dental Science, Joseph Dill, DDS, MBA, brings more than 30 years of experience in the field, including eight years in private dental practice and 16 years in the dental insurance industry. He recently served as vice president of professional services and dental director for Delta Dental of Virginia, where he led the clinical professional services, dental policy, utilization management, fraud and abuse, and quality care areas.

 

Dill also spent two years working for the U.S. Public Health Service as a commissioned officer where he provided dental care to residents of the Fort Peck Indian Reservation in Northern Montana. Following eight years in private practice, he founded a start-up medical device company, Otoimage, Inc. to develop a reliable means of diagnosing otitis media in infants and children. He earned his dental degree and bachelor's degree from the University of the Pacific and his masters of business administration from the University of California at Irvine.
