In May of this year, the Arkansas Mission of Mercy (ArMOM) provided needed dental care to 1,970 low-income and uninsured Arkansans. The care these people received was worth more than $822,075 with 1,480 fillings provided and 3,015 teeth extracted.
The 2009 Mission of Mercy was funded by a $100,000 grant from Delta Dental of Arkansas and a $100,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation.
“There are a number of Arkansans out there who simply can’t afford dental insurance and still need help. That’s why we contribute to this program” said Ed Choate, president and CEO of Delta Dental of Arkansas.
More than 900 people volunteered to help provide free basic dental care to adults and children of all ages on a first-come, first-served basis. Among the volunteers were approximately 175 dentists.
Over the past three years, ArMOM has treated more than 4,900 people, extracted 8,605 teeth, and provided 4,074 fillings, all at a value of more than two million dollars.
