Health Care Reform

Grandfathered Plans

During the health care reform debate President Obama said, "If you like your health plan you can keep it."

The "grandfather provision" allows plans that already existed when the ACA became law to be grandfathered, and therefore exempt from some of the new law's provisions.

Stand-alone dental that meets the requirements of being an excepted benefit is not subject to the ACA's insurance market reforms and so is not affected by the grandfathered health plan rule.
